Welcome to Australia and to HIMA, Keith Commins!
Having recently immigrated to Australia from the
United Kingdom with his wife
Kerry, son Billy and daughter Ruby, Keith Commins
joins HIMA Australia as Business Unit Manager for
Lifecycle Services.
Keith worked at ICI for eleven years before becoming
a Process Control Instrumentation Service Engineer
with Yokogawa UK. With six years of experience under
his belt, Keith was promoted to the role of Process
Control Instrumentation Service Supervisor. Two
years later, Keith stepped into the role of Yokogawa
UK Service
Manager and was responsible for all process control
instrumentation, DCS and SIS work performed in the
UK with a team of approximately twenty engineers.
During his quiet time, Keith enjoys playing football
(which is really called soccer) and golf and watching rugby league. |

Another new member for the service team
We would like to welcome Srinivasarao
Guruguloo
to HIMA Australia as Head of Training and Senior
Service Engineer.
Yes, the name
Srinivasarao is quite a mouthful, that's why we call
him Sri.
Leaving his home town of Taman Sri Subang, Malaysia and joining the
team in Brisbane, Sri and his family (wife Malar,
son Laxsman and daughter Abbi) are happy to be
living in Australia.
Sri worked at Petronas in Malaysia for five years
as an Instrument Technician before joining HIMA SEA
as a Training & Service Engineer. As a certified
HIMA trainer for Asia Pacific, Sri delivered systems
training for end users, system integrators and new
recruits as well as leading projects and site
commissioning support.
Sri's
favourite pastimes are reading, listening to music
and any activities that involve going to the beach. |

► Events - Machinery Safety & Asset
Integrity Conference |
|
The Machinery Safety & Asset Integrity conference
was held in Melbourne on April 14-15 with the aim of exploring practical methods
and best practices for eliminating and/or reducing hazards and risks from the
use of machinery in workplaces.
As the world's leading designer and manufacturer
of automated safety solutions in the process industry, HIMA Australia could not
pass up the opportunity to sponsor the conference.
On day one, HIMA Australia's Managing Director Brian Mulcahy opened the
conference to an audience of eighty and later
presented a case study on applying functional
safety to minimise risk, ensure project compliance
and improve profitability.
With hard hats donned and safety boots worn, the
National Sales Manager Greg Macham and Regional
Sales Manager Marc Radojkovic put on an explosive
demonstration dedicated to the HIMax, HIMatrix and
HIQuad safety systems.
Richard Thum, Application Engineer Factory
Automation of HIMA Germany, was invited by HIMA
Australia to deliver a forty-five minute practical
case study on safety. Richard spoke about the
safety-related HIMatrix controllers installed for
the expansion of a baggage handling system at
Frankfurt Airport. |

► Safety Systems in Process Automation
Seminar |
|
On April 29, HIMA Australia, for the first time, delivered a
three hour seminar dedicated to increasing industry
knowledge and awareness of safety systems in process
automation. The seminar commenced at two in the afternoon at
the Parmelia Hilton Perth Hotel and concluded with refreshments
and nibbles at Adelphi Steakhouse & Bar.
HIMA Australia’s Managing Director Brian Mulcahy
kick-started the seminar with a presentation on how
optimising the level of risk is key to ensuring an efficient
and safe operation.

► Prosafe: The next step in
Process Safety Management |
ProSafe: The next step in Process Safety Management is a
two day conference providing attendees with the opportunity
to gain insights into strategically mastering process safety
management.
With a spectacular turnout of over two hundred people, the
conference held on June 2-3 in Melbourne definitely
succeeded in capturing interest as attendees included
General managers, managers, chiefs, directors, heads and
team leaders.
Brian Mulcahy, Managing Director of HIMA Australia,
delivered a forty-five minute case study on functional
safety and the regulatory environment related to process
safety. Questions such as "how should AS 61508/61511 be
applied in process safety?" and "what are the potential
implications for those accountable for safe operation of
critical assets?" were brought to the audience's attention. |

► ENEX - New Zealand's Oil & Gas
Event |
Top Image: Greg Macham (left) and Alain Lafourcade (right) |
HIMA Australia recently participated in a two day ENEX event for the oil and gas
industry. Held in New Plymouth, New Zealand on June 9-10, the 'conference within
an exhibition', is a partnership between
Contrafed Publishing Ltd and Conferenz Ltd that provides a platform to showcase
the resources and skills possessed by the oil and gas sector both in New Zealand
and internationally.
Sales team members,
Greg Macham (Perth office) and Alain Lafourcade (Brisbane office) took time out
of their busy schedules to participate in New Zealand's first ever petroleum
exhibition, answering questions and demonstrating safety systems such as HIMax,
HIMatrix and HIQuad.
As a platinum sponsor of the ENEX New Zealand's Oil & Gas Event, HIMA Australia was
given an opportunity to deliver a short presentation. National Sales Manager
Greg Macham spoke about functional safety and the importance of making
decisions based on the right levels of risk, highlighting the differences
between safety systems and control systems.
With hands shaken and business cards exchanged, the 2011
first time event showed a promising future. |
